Do you sometimes feel you don’t have the confidence you need to build your online business? Or maybe you need a boost in your confidence to try new things to grow your business? Or maybe you are just getting started and need some extra confidence to take that first step?
Whatever the reason, some confidence would certainly help. Working your own online business can have its ups and downs. Not having accountability to an employer, and being completely independent, can make it easy to shut down when you feel discouraged, and not be able to get things done.
Believe me, when waves of self-doubt, and not feeling confident come up, it can throw you for a loop, and make you feel stuck.
The antidote to self-doubt is confidence. Well, confidence is not something we are born with, nor is it something we get by osmosis. It’s something that we have to instill in ourselves and believe we can achieve our goals.
How do we build confidence to have a successful online business?
Here are 4 important tips for building confidence in your online business:
Educate Yourself
One of the most important confidence-builders is knowing that you know what you know! You may have a lot of great business ideas but you don’t have the know-how to make it happen.
Educate yourself about how to market your product or service – what is your competition? How can you reach your demographic? What kinds of advertising should you do?
You may need some nuts-and-bolts education, too – for example, how do you set up an effective website? You may need some practical knowledge to help you reach your goals.
There are many ways to educate yourself in business. You can hire an online marketing coach to help you one-on-one. You can also download eBooks and videos, sign up with boards and forums where business-savvy people congregate, and ask questions of successful people.
Get Focused
Getting educated is key to getting focused. You really can’t move forward if you don’t know what direction you’re going in. Take some time to focus on your business. What, exactly, are you doing? What do you want to do? Who is your target market or demographic? (See my post about Branding here).
If you have diverse interests, this can be tough – because diverse interests can be distracting if you don’t focus on one at a time. So once you get yourself educated about your market, and what you want to do, you can launch a focused online business (or focus on an existing one).
Don’t Compare Yourself To Others
We all know that professional – the one who has written ten books, has a dozen jobs, and has a perfect house. You may not be that kind of person, and that kind of schedule and those goals are just not realistic for you.
It’s not productive to compare yourself to others. You can get ideas from what they are doing but full blown comparison, don’t go there. I think that it leads to self-doubt and takes away from your focus on what you are doing right. Set your own realistic goals and compare your progress against those.
I say be an original!
Believe In Your Success
Think positive – the glass is half-full mentality. Believe in you! You know you did the necessary preparation and you have the competence to carry out your goals.
Once you get confident, you will be much more likely to attract clients, which in turn will boost your confidence. It’s a great cycle to get into.
I would love to encourage and help you to realize your dream of an online business so…
