When I think about a blog post and how I want it to look, my own house comes to mind. I don’t know about you, but when I have visitors coming to my house, I frantically run around making sure my house is neat and clean, before they arrive (yep, that’s what I do). The same could be said for a visitor clicking on my blog post.
Just like my house and website, I care about what impression I will be making, especially when it’s the first visit. Remember that saying:
“you never get a second chance to make a first impression.”
What do I want them to see?
Visitors form an opinion within the first few seconds upon arriving. If it is clean and tidy then I appear put together and with it. Or if it is messy and disorganized then I seem out of sorts.
Will they feel welcomed or uncomfortable?
Visitors finding a cluttered, not so neat blog post will likely bounce off my site. If they find a neat and tidy one they may stick around and check it out.
Well? What does a neat and tidy blog post look like?
If the reader can easily scan the information and finds it interesting and engaging with cool images, then they may stay longer. Yay to that!
Here are some points to consider for your content:
- Is the title interesting and describes what the post is about?
- Are the H1, H2, etc., tags used appropriately for good SEO?
- Are the keywords clearly stated with supporting synonyms for good SEO?
- Are synonyms used in a logical manner so content is interesting and valuable to the reader?
- Are there a couple of internal and outbound links placed in content to be meaningful and helpful to the reader?
- Is there a clear call to action (CTA) placed in content leading to a landing page?
- Are paragraphs small and broken up to make it easier to scan? (good for viewing on mobile devices too!)
- Are images relevant and interesting, sized and placed appropriately?
- Are there clearly visible buttons to share your content?
Just remember all of these factors reflect on you and what your brand is all about. Something as simple as having a neat and tidy blog post can speak volumes in how you are perceived by your visitor. Your website is like your home online. What sort of impression do you want to make to that first time visitor?
